We’re Great Island Bound
Chapter 1
“Jake! Get down here right now! We need to get on the cruise!” Jake quickly closed his suitcase and walked downstairs.
“I sure hope I don’t get sunburn when I work on my tan,” Jake said.
“Enough talk, we have to go,” Jake’s mom replied. Later, the Sanderson family arrived at the dock.
“Wow! Look at that ship,” someone in the crowd yelled.
“Wait just a computerized, voice activated, Twin Turbo-9000 SP5 Kung-Fu Titanium/Lithium Alloy Processing minute! I know that voice,” said Jake. Cadence walked behind Jake.
“Hi Jake,” exclaimed Cadence.
“Oh, shoot! it’s Cadence,” thought Jake. “Hi Cadence,” Jake said trying to act happy.
“Who’s this?” asked Jake’s mom.
Jake replied, “This is Cadence. My… uh, pink-loving friend.”
“Jake likes Cadence,” Jake’s sister teased.
“As a friend, yes. Jeez, I hate your attitude, Sissy,” Jake replied. “Cadence, just try to be calm.”
“Oh, yeah, speaking of calm, will you hold these egg yolks?” Cadence asked.
“Ew… where did you even get these?” asked Jake.
“Oh, just some guy. I think he was wearing a black and white striped shirt and hat and he was holding a sign with numbers on it,” Cadence answered.
“He came from jail,” yelled Jake. Then the boat started to leave the dock as everyone boarded the boat.
Later, in the engine room of the boat, a worker said, “Blimey! The engine has had engine failure! The boat is sinking!” Everyone on board the ship felt the ship rumble violently and heard a siren that meant sinking ship. Everyone found lifeboats and got off the ship. Except for the Sandersons and Cadence.
“Everyone, quick! Jump off and swim to that island,” yelled Jake’s father. Everyone jumped off of the boat and swam to a nearby island. When they reached the island, Jake was missing.
“He’s in the water! I’ll save him,” yelled Cadence. Cadence swam as fast as she could to reach Jake. She grabbed Jake and swam back to the island. Jake was knocked out.
“He needs mouth-to-mouth,” Cadence yelled. Jake coughed and was fine.
“Stop I’m fine,” yelled Jake.
“Oh, well in that case, we’re trapped on a deserted island with no food, water, TV, or video games,” said Cadence.
“No! I can’t believe it! We’re trapped on an island and I can’t play my video games,” exclaimed Jake.
“Forget stupid video games,” Sissy yelled. “We don’t have any food or water! We’re trapped on an island!”
Chapter 2
“Well, this vacation is working out fabulously,” Jake said sarcastically.
“Look on the bright side, we have a beautiful view of the ocean, we should appreciate that. We’ll probably be rescued. This could be a great experience,” Cadence said. The Sandersons stared at Cadence in amazement. The whole time they’ve been on the boat and the dock, all she was doing was being hyper. But right now, she’s being calm.
“That’s impossible,” Jake said! “There’s no way you can be Cadence! I mean, that was an extraordinary calmness level! Especially for you!”
“Well, why don’t we look for resources we can use to keep ourselves alive? Well? Does anyone want to acknowledge me for THAT?” Cadence said. Nobody replied. It was nothing but silence. Then everyone slowly backed away from Cadence. In a few minutes, everyone went looking for shelter, food, and water. They saw a cave and everyone pushed and shoved trying to get in. In 10 minutes, everyone was talking to one-another.
“Boy, that wasn’t necessary what we were doing back there,” Jake said.
Cadence replied, “What’s odd is, our conversations never have any subject.”
“Well, that’s because, usually, you’re more hyper than when you light a fuse on a crazy bomb,” Jake answered.
“Hey! don’t you dare call me hyper! If you think you can get away with calling me anything but my name, you got another thing comin’,” Cadence argued.
Chapter 3
Later, Jake’s family went looking for things to keep themselves alive. Jake was getting attacked by bugs. He tried to avoid them, but everywhere he looked, it was just bugs.
“Gah! I can’t take this anymore! Get off of me you stupid bugs,” Jake exclaimed. Jake stumbled upon an oasis and found a chicken, surprisingly. Jake said, “Yes! A chicken! Wait, why is a chicken on a deserted island? Oh well. I really hate to do this, but…” Jake attacked the chicken in which the chicken died. “I’m sorry, chicken.” Jake ran back to the shelter. “Guys! Guys! I found a chicken! I feel bad about killing it, but we have food,” Jake exclaimed.
“Great! How are we going to cook it?” Jake’s sister asked.
“Everyone, we need to build a fire so we can eat this wonderful food. Sissy, your assignment is to find wood to start the fire. Mom, you have to find tinder. Dad, I need you to find a good place to start the fire,” Jake enforced. Everyone headed out.
“If I were wood, where would I be?” Sissy asked. “Yes! A tree! Now how am I going to separate the bark from the tree?” Sissy pulled as hard as she could trying to peel the bark off of the tree. It seemed like a tough job. Sissy was struggling. “Maybe the tree’s neighbor will be easier,” Sissy said. Sissy pulled at a chapped part of the tree and nothing happened. “Oh, come on!” Then Sissy noticed an ax on the ground. “Huh? Why is an ax here? Oh well, I guess I have to be a lumberjack. Sissy cut the trees down and shape the wood into logs and she had all the firewood she needed. “Yes!” Sissy ran back to the shelter.
“Now, I need to find tinder,” Jake’s mom said. “Where can I find tinder? Of course! Leaves! Well, this is easy!” Jake’s mom picked leaves from trees and ran back to the shelter.
“Hm… I need to find a good place for the fire. Well, if I arrange rocks into a circle, that would make a nice place,” Jake’s dad said. “This should be interesting.” Jake’s dad looked for rocks. “Wow! Rocks,” Jake’s dad exclaimed excitedly! Jake’s dad picked up the rocks. “Oh man, I shouldn’t exaggerate! These things are heavy! Well, at least this is better than when I had to translate English into Spanish for that foreign guy. That guy was Japanese!” Jake’s dad tried to run back to the shelter, but had to walk because of the weight of the rocks. Everyone was back at the shelter.
“My stationary was hard,” Sissy complained.
“Well, let’s work on the fire so we can cook this chicken, therefore giving us food, start a signal for someone to rescue us, we’ll get to go home, and then I will join the food committee,” Jake exclaimed.
“What?” everyone asked.
“Nevermind,” Jake replied.
Chapter 4
“Don’t exaggerate, Sissy,” Jake said. “I’m sure everyone else’s assignment was hard, too.”
“Actually, mine was an easy experience,” Mrs. Sanderson said.
“I remembered that foreign guy who wanted me to translate English into Spanish,” exclaimed Mr. Sanderson.
“Well, that’s hardly fair! They all got easy jobs,” Sissy complained. “And why did you talk about joining the food committee?”
“Why don’t you go separate and arrange some bird eggs? Is that easy enough?” Jake replied.
“If you’re suggesting that I’m stupid and shallow, you’re wrong! I’m above average! I’m in college! You should acknowledge me! Don’t tell me to look at the calendar,” Sissy replied angrily. “And I do mean all of that very sincerely!” There was silence in the air. Jake was frozen in place shocked and amazed. He wanted to barf, laugh, and cry, all at the same time.
“I can not divulge any words to describe that,” said Cadence.
“Go take a plunge in the water, you crazy girl,” exclaimed Sissy.
“Ok, don’t talk to my friends like that, Sissy!” yelled Jake. “Because of you being mean to my friend, I finally have the courage to stand up to you!” Everyone was interested that Jake never actually stood up to Sissy. Therefore, someone spoke.
“Ok, this whole exchange of yelling has been nice, and the shortage of noise has been nice, but look! Look at the boat! It’s all just wreckage,” Cadence exclaimed. Everyone looked out to the sea. They all saw the horrible disaster that caused them all to wind up on this island in the first place.
“Ok, the ship reminded me, that this was supposed to be a family vacation. And that’s exactly what it’s going to be! Let’s all have fun,” Mr. Sanderson yelled happily.
Chapter 5
“How exactly are we supposed to have fun here? There’s no electricity,” Sissy asked.
“Well, how do you think we had fun when I was a kid?” Mr. Sanderson asked.
“Hard labor,” Jake guessed.
“No,” Mr. Sanderson said. “We used our minds and we came up with something to do.”
“Ok, let’s see. I’m picturing myself playing video games. It’s a good one, too,” Jake said sarcastically.
“I didn’t mean it literally. There weren’t any video games around when I was a kid except for Pong,” Mr. Sanderson replied.
“Well, I’ll go make a surfboard. These waves are awesome,” Jake exclaimed. Jake wandered off to look for the proper materials.
“Then I guess I’ll go make a comb so I can do my hair. Maybe even a shower, too,” Sissy said.
“I’ll go with Jake,” Cadence said. “Maybe I’ll donate some knowledge on getting the diameter right without creating a bulge.” Cadence followed Jake. In an hour, Jake had a complete surfboard.
“Well, I better not waste my time by going in to shallow water. Thanks for helping, Cadence. I’m glad I appointed you to gravitational engineer. Although, I wish I would’ve come up with a better rank name,” Jake said in one breath. Jake immediately ran into a problem. The path was covered by trees. He hoisted himself up to the tree. Cadence grabbed the tree trunk and generated enough strength to fling Jake to the shore. “Cadence, that was stupendous,” Jake exclaimed while flying to the shore.
Chapter 6
“Oh yeah,” yelled Jake. “I can’t believe this is reality! This wave is awesome!” On the other side of the island, Sissy created a crudely made shower.
“Well, it’s not the shower of your dreams, but it’s not too shabby,” remarked Sissy. “Now, I’ll just try it to see if it works.” Sissy pulled out the lever that blocked the water from coming through the shower. “Amazing! This works great!”
“What is that?” asked Cadence.
“It’s a shower. Strangely… I found a lot of bamboo on the ground. I had the required amount of bamboo to make this shower. I had duct tape in my luggage. A LOT of duct tape! I taped every bamboo stick to eachother at a perfect angle to where water from the ocean will flow through into this shower… spraying… thing,” explained Sissy.
“Ok, so you were able to maintain the bamboo in its place when making the shower?” Cadence asked.
“Yes,” Sissy answered. That night, at about 4:00 in the morning, Cadence woke Jake up.
“What?” Jake asked angrily in a hushed tone.
“I want to explore this island. Maybe if we’re lucky, we’ll find some clues about how we get off,” Cadence replied.
“Fine,” Jake agreed with a sigh. In nearly 10 minutes, Jake and Cadence had found nothing.
“Well, this was a waste of my time,” Jake said. Jake leaned back on a tree and the ground started shaking.
“What in the world is going on?” Cadence yelled.
“I don’t know,” Jake replied. Suddenly, a doorway that led to a stone staircase leading downward had emerged from the ground. Cadence gasped.
“Look! There are stairs! Let’s head down them,” Cadence yelled with excitement. Cadence had rushed down the stairs and Jake followed, desperately trying to catch up.
“WOW,” yelled Cadence. “Look at all of this gold! We’ve made a fortune!”
“Wait! Don’t touch it! I have to mention that this place could be full of booby-traps,” Jake explained.
“Oh, man. I have to admit that that was pretty stupid,” Cadence sighed.
“Fortunately, I was here to tell you otherwise,” bragged Jake. “If you would’ve touched it, who knows what occurrence could’ve… well… occurred.”
“Enough bragging,” complained Cadence. “Let’s just advance beyond that sinister looking ghost.”
“Wait a minute. That comment was extremely weird,” said Jake.
“Oh, do you think I’m sinister, little girl?” asked a mysterious voice.
“Jake, did you just call me a little girl?” asked Cadence angrily.
“I swear that wasn’t me,” answered Jake.
“Turn around, young lady,” said the mysterious voice. Cadence turned around.
“It was I, who called you ‘little girl,’” answered the mysterious voice.
“Who… are… you?” Cadence asked frightfully.
“I am the ghost of this cavern. I have awaited you for over 10,000 years,” answered the ghost.
“Why?” asked Cadence.
“The prognosticus of the ancients describes 2 children coming to this very cavern to perform an extreme survival,” answered the ghost.
Chapter 7
“Right this way,” said the ghost. The ghost led Cadence and Jake to another room.
“What is this room?” asked Cadence.
“This is your survival pack,” answered the ghost.
“That statement was unfinished,” Jake said. The ghost disregarded Jake’s comment. Cadence looked inside the pack. Her reaction was extremely pleasant.
“There’s rubies, sapphires, emeralds, gold, food, tools, and a whole lot more stuff colliding in the same pack,” yelled Cadence. “This is a huge breakthrough! There’s even a generator that has plenty of outlets and it’s run by a huge battery!”
“I can play my video games,” Jake yelled excitedly.
“You brought those with you?” asked Cadence.
“Honestly, yes,” answered Jake.
“I’m dejected… that I didn’t bring some,” yelled Cadence.
“I have them all combined on the same disc,” replied Jake. “I definitely want to play some when we return to our shelter.” Jake grabbed the survival pack and started to run back to the island but was stopped by the ghost.
“If you do not leave the island in exactly 72 hours, the island will blow up, with you on it,” the ghost warned.
“What about you?” asked Cadence.
“I shall remain the same. After all I am a ghost,” answered the ghost. Jake and Cadence ran back up to the island. In about 10 minutes, they were back at the shelter.
“Guys, wake up! Wake up,” yelled Jake. “You won’t believe what happened. Cadence woke me up to go exploring, and we found this underground cave, and there was a ghost who told us that we were part of some prog… um… something, and he gave us this survival pack full of really cool stuff, and if we don’t leave the island in 72 hours, it’s going to blow up,” exclaimed Jake in only one breath.
“That is the most ridiculous, absurd thing I have ever heard,” yelled Sissy.
“No it’s true, look,” yelled Cadence. Cadence grabbed the survival pack and showed it to everyone. Everyone gazed in amazement.
“If all of this is true, then everyone has to volunteer to help get us off the island,” exclaimed Mr. Sanderson. “If we all work together, we’ll have an opportunity to get off this island!”
Chapter 8
“Well, dad,” Jake said. “We don’t have to because the emergency transmitter has been set off and a helicopter is coming.”
“Oh,” said Mr. Sanderson. “Well, what should we do?” Suddenly a roar could be heard. It sounded like helicopter blades.
“What is that?”, asked Cadence curiously.
“It’s a helicopter,” Jake yelled excitedly. “We’re saved!” The helicopter landed on the island with a small bump. Then, a mysterious man in white stepped out.
“I got the signal from your tansmitter. You folks need some help?” asked the man in a Southern accent.
“Yes! I’m Sissy Sanderson, and I’ve been stuck here for days with my parents, a stupid brother, and some crazy girl,” Sissy yelled in frustration. “Are you a scientist here to rescue us?”
“No, little gal. I’m an investigator,” answered the man. “It turns out that this place is actually a popular tourist location.”
“So?” Jake asked.
“Exactly. Even senators are visitors here,” the man said.
“I don’t think this guy has a clue,” Jake whispered to Cadence.
“My crew is just an engineer and I,” exclaimed the man.
“We really don’t care,” Sissy said with sassiness.
“So you… don’t care that you’re on TV?” asked the man.
“What?” asked Mr. Sanderson.
“You’re on the show, ‘We’re Great Island Bound,’” answered the man.
“Do you mean to tell me we were on a TV show this whole time?” asked Jake angrily.
“Yes, sir,” answered the man with a smile. “And for surviving this whole time, you get $1,000,000, the best dentist ever, a mansion with a library and a librarian, and for the gal, you get to be a summer camp counselor at any summer camp!”
“No way! I can’t believe this! This is amazing,” yelled Jake excitedly. “We never have to be a sad customer again! We can buy anything!” A man with a mustache stepped out of the helicopter. It was the director.
“That’s a wrap,” yelled the director. “Congratulations. You survived as well as pioneers survived.”
“I can’t believe this. But, how were you recording it?” asked Mrs. Sanderson.
“We had cameras all over the island,” answered the director. “Now, we’re taking you home.” The Sandersons and Cadence got on the helicopter.
“Kids, it’s going to be a long trip back home,” said Mrs. Sanderson. The helicopter started to fly away from the island, and with 3 seconds, the island blew up.
“Wow,” Jake said with a shock.
Epilogue
Hi! I’m Jared! I’m the guy who wrote this story! Just want to tell you guys what happened after the Sandersons left the island. This is after several years. So, the Sandersons were rich for the rest of their lives, Jake married… Cadence? That can’t be right! That doesn’t make sense! Great. Jake is now the owner of a big time video game company, Cadence became the first femal President of the U.S.A., Jake’s parents are now retired on a tropical island, and Sissy became a scientist. Wow. That’s… weird. I’m amazed all of that happened!

I hope you enjoy the story!
